Acro Video of the Month February 2011

Here is a video that Dave Harris took while attending the World Games (the Olympics for non-Olympic sports) in Kaoshung, Chinese Taipei in 2009.

This is a great Balance Routine by the British team. At least two of these guys were part of the Spellbound troop who won Britain's Got Talent.

You can also find a bit clearer video of this routine on Youtube at:

Not available yet. I will attach the link tomorrow.

Acro Skill Series of the Month February 2011

Here is a skill series for a Men's four showing how to create the three high (or temple) pyramid with the top on the shoulders of the middle.

Thanks to the four men from Portugal performing the skill series and to Karl Warton of the FIG and Toshko Pavlov an FIG Acrobatic Gymnastics coaching expert who are assisting in the creation of this pyramid.
Notice that they start by breaking the pyramid down into its parts: the bases with the middle. Then the middle and the top simple on some stable risers. Then they move to the less stable pegs. Then they take it up onto the bases.
Always try to think of how you can break a skill down into its parts first. It will save you time and frustration as well as make the first time you try the full skill that much safer.
Have fun!

Acrobatic Gymnastics Picture of the Month February 2011

Okay. So I thought I should get caught up.

Here is another favourite picture of acrobatic gymnastics.

Acrobatic Gymnastics Pic of the Month March 2011

Here is Edward Upcott of the UK. He is a previous world champion and one of the performers in the Britain's Got Talent winning troop call Spellbound.

Acro Video of the Month March 2011

Here is the latest video. It's not a traditional acrobatic gymnastics routine. It's more of a stage performance for Ukraine's Got Talent. Still some interesting stuff.

Acrobatic Gymnastics Skill Series of the Month March 2011

Okay so I have been a bit delinquent in getting up videos, skill series and a picture of the month.

Here are the March posts.

Training Camp The Best Yet

The 2nd Gymnastics Ontario Acrobatic Gymnastics Training Camp hosted by Gymnastics Mississauga and in partnership with Gymnastics Canada and Cirque du Soleil was the best training camp yet.  We had almost 50 athletes participate and over 10 coaches learning from our clinicians from CDS.  The three day camp was full of acrobatic instruction, dance and artistry experiences and general enthusiasm for the newest gymnastics discipline in Canada.

A big thank you goes to Gymnastics Mississauga for being such a fantastic and welcoming host for the event.  The space was great and everyone at Gymnastics Mississauga was so willing to share space.

Thank you to Ren Torosyants for helping out with the camp and being so energetic throughout the weekend motivating the participants to work harder and try new things.

Our main clinicians from Cirque du Soleil were Caitlin Maggs and Alexei Karuline.  They were fantastic and very well received by the athletes and coaches.  I will post separate bios on these two individuals in subsequent posts.

Here are a few pictures from the event.  More will follow as I have close to 1000 photos and videos of all the 19 routines performed on the final day of the camp.

Thank you to Gymnastics Canada for supporting this event and providing the connection to CDS.

Thank you to all of the participants and their families for attending.  You are the beginning and the future of Acrobatic Gymnastics in Canada.
